A curbside discard, the bare canvas was distorted from lying wet. I worked on it as I found it. Southwest images still filled my short-term visual memory. The first layer was a horizontal series of saguaro. The next layer divided the canvas and turned the piece vertical. A snake, like those thick ropes that cross desert roads, showed up in the next layer. Palm trees and a hole in the center showed up next. Marty disassembled pallets and designed a frame distorted in the opposite direction. The piece looks even but doesn’t look even.
