CHICKEN COOP HEINE
38" x 46" (3 layers)
Acrylics, oils, spray enamel,
and paint sticks on glass mounted with bent nails on a shipping
pallet
In 1955, chickens and pigeons
were kept in ramshackle, unlit backyard coops in Compton,
California, by its poor brown and black residents. Opportunity and
exploitation came together in the half-darkened city’s early night
while dinner was being served in the house.
