Blue Desert from a Train Window

BLUE DESERT FROM A TRAIN WINDOW

23" x 19" framed (4 layers)
Acrylics, glitter, spray enamel, and terra cotta markers on illustration board

I was asked by a novelist to do a study in blue, her favorite color. I did four. This one is about the blues in the desert where many broken hearts have gone to die. I have been there myself, on my knees with my son Tino burying the ashes of our dog India. From that barren ground above Tucson, we plucked a flower. The spirit of India ducked away behind a blue Saguaro. Tino's poem rose beyond the butte and a crow, perhaps a raven, cawed once.
